SmartCrane LLC, our associates, and our parent company, Daniel H. Wagner Associates, Inc. offer a talented and capable team to solve any crane automation problem, large or small.

Dr. Joe Discenza, President and CEO, has an undergraduate Marine Engineering Degree from the USCG Academy, a Masters in Management (Quantitative Analysis) from the Naval Postgraduate School, and a Ph.D. in Quantitative Analysis and Economics from NYU. Dr. Discenza is a former USCG Officer and has been developing software to solve operations problems since 1969.  He was Vice President at Daniel H. Wagner Associates for 15 years before moving to the newly formed subsidiary, SmartCrane LLC, in 2001.

Dr. Rob Overton, Vice President, is the inventor of SmartCrane’s computer anti-sway algorithms and developed and supervised the installation of the first crane automated system at VIT in 1992.

Mr. Tony Simkus is a veteran port engineer, having risen to the post of Director of Engineering and Maintenance at Virginia International Terminals, Inc.  Tony was instrumental in Daniel H. Wagner’s first successful demonstration of computer anti-sway at VIT.
